Established in 1883, York Mountain is one of the oldest wineries in America. Total parcel size is approximately 146 acres with a great portion of the ranch open ground. Improvements include an approximate 3000 square foot ranch house, old winery building and tasting room totaling 4000 sq. ft. plus an old barn. York Mountain winery is situated in the York Mountain Appellation. The brand is included in the sale.
A premier location, stunning natural beauty and a unique Historical legacy differentiate this opportunity from all the others. The York Family built the winery in 1882 with wood from the old Cayucos Pier and bricks hand made on site. It was during the stewardship of Max Goldman in the latter half of the 20th century that The York Mountain Appellation was approved. The coastal location, approximately seven miles from the ocean, elevation and soils combined to create a unique microclimate. Some very nice Pinot Noir was produced by Max and Steve Goldman.
The winery was shut down by the County for earthquake retrofit in 2000 and damaged by the earthquake in 2003. Today the winery sits idle. A temporary trailer was brought in to serve as a tasting room. The location is one of the nicest venues for tasting in California. The house is vacant and in need of repair. The brand is alive and well with distribution and on site retail in the 2000 plus case range. No vines are currently planted.
